Abstract

The National Curriculum Framework (NCF) 2005, has emphasized on the cultivation of critical thinking as a part of learners’ over all development. From the beginning of the formal education, learners’ should be trained to think critically, and they should be helped to develop appropriate reasoning capacity in order to cope with present competitive and, modernized world. R.W. Emerson centuries ago in his lecture delivered on ‘American Scholar’ has focused on the need to develop man as thinking being. “… (Schools) can only highly serve us, when they aim not to drill, but to create.” In developing critical thinking in a formal educational context, the role of a teacher is significant.
