Abstract

Information Technology is used by airline industry since many years,according to Analyst firm Forrester Research, in early 21st century airline industry struggled a lot to upgrade its antiquated technology systems to be more customers friendly. Role of IT in airline industry is most significant in the introduction of E tickets replacing the paper tickets with magnetic strips. This saved airlines about $ 3 billion per year according to IATA. However, an airline spent just 1.7% of their total revenue on IT as compared to typical expenditure of between 2.5% to 3.5% by other industries according to SITA an airline industry analyst firm. In spite of this the internet and modern technology have opened up new market places and allow promoting businesses to new geographic locations and cultures worldwide by embracing information technologies, companies
