SYNTHESIS OF NAPHTHOFURAN-1,3,4-OXADIAZOLE CONTAINING PIPERAZINES AND STUDY OF THE ANTIBACTERIAL AND ANTIFUNGAL ACTIVITY

Abstract

Substituted naphtho[2,1-b]furan-2-carbohydrazide 1a-b were cyclised with carbondisulphide in presence of potassium hydroxide to get 5-(1-substitutednaphtho[2,1-b]furan- 2-yl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole-2-thiols2a-b which were treated with ethyl iodide in presence of potassium carbonate in ethanol to get 2-(ethylsulphanyl)-5-(1- substitutednaphtho[2,1-b]furan-2-yl)-1,3,4-oxadiazoles 3a-b. Compounds 3a-b were refluxed with different substituted piperazines like N-methyl piperazine, N-benzylpiperazine and N-phenylpiperazine to afford 1-methyl-4-[5-(1- substitutednaphtho[2,1-b]furan-2-yl)-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-yl]piperazines 4a-b, 1-benzyl-4-(5-(1-substitutednaphtho[2,1- b]furan-2-yl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole-2-yl)piperazines 5a-b and 1-(5-(1-substituted-naphtho[2,1-b]furan-2-yl)-1,3,4-oxadiazol- 2-yl)-4-phenylpiperazines 6a-b respectively. The structures of newly synthesised compounds have been confirmed by elemental analysis and spectral analysis. Some selected compounds have been screened for antibacterial and antifungal activities.
