Abstract

Ylang ylang (Cananga Odorata) is one of the essential oils which is found to be beneficial to humans. It is found that the Ylang ylang flower oil has antidepressant properties and helps in relieving anxiety, fear, mental stress. In this study, Ylang ylang oil was procured from a vendor and its chemical composition was determined by FTIR and GCMS. Diethyl phthalate was identified as a major compound present followed by monoterpenoids like linalool, nerol, trans-eugenol and aromatic compounds like benzyl acetate, benzyl salicylate, p-methyl anisole and methyl benzoate. Furthermore, a comparative study was carried out with the help of literature review to gather information of the chemical profile of natural Ylang ylang oil.
