Abstract

Epidemiological and experimental studies indicates that calcium is important for smooth muscles function and it is inversely associated with risk of hypertension. Further studies indicate that increased intake of calcium may be associated with a rise in blood pressure. It seems that there is a controversy regarding the role of calcium status in hypertension. In the present study we examine the calcium status among urban subjects in North India.
