Abstract

Carbon material had been synthesized by a carbonization method from castor seed at 900oC temperature in an oxygen free atmosphere. SEM study of carbon material indicates the formation of porous and layered structure. Other characteristic studies like XRD indicates formation of graphitic carbon. An electrode was prepared using porous carbon material and its electrochemical performance was recorded in 6 M KOH electrolyte solution. With the help of potentiostat instrument, cyclic voltammetry study of carbon material was carried out at different scan rates (10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 mV/s). It shows that, increase in applied scan rate, decreases the specific capacitance value of EDLC.
