STUDY OF SOIL PROPERRTIES FROM GHATANJI TALUKA DIST.YAVATMAL, MAHARASHTRA

Yavatmal District in Vidharbha is ill known for farmers suicide. Several socio-economic reasons have been put forward, apart from the practices of agriculture in this region. Since soil forms a basis of agriculture, we have studied in the present paper some soil parameters from the soil samples collected from Ghatanji Taluka, District Yavatmal. The primary soil nutrients Nitrogen, Phosphorous and Potassium (N,P,K) have been measured from the collected soil samples by the routine analytical methods. By comparing the values of N, P, K thus obtained with the standard, we find that all the soil samples contain excess of K while majority of samples are in excess of P. The nitrogen N seems to be at the lower level with respect to the standard values.
