Abstract
Plants are a wonderful treasure house to enormous number of phytochemicals. These phytochemicals can be categorised under phenolics, terpenoids, alkaloids, flavanoids etc. which play an indispensable role for plants not in primary metabolism but in the form of agents to defence mechanism against herbivory, pest and pathogenic attack. Since long, various tools and techniques have been used for the identification of the phyto-components present in the crude extract. Gas Chromatography- Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) is one such method that is commonly employed. The present study has been manifested with an aim to analyse the various numbers of phytochemicals present in the crude extracts of the different plant parts of the selected plant “Tecomella undulata”. Solvents like acetone, methanol and petroleum ether were utilised for the crude extraction of the bioactive components present in stem and bark of the plant. Bark of the plant with solvent petroleum ether was found to possess maximum compounds. The amount and number of the phytochemicals varies significantly as per the different solvents. The resultant findings were later used to further validate the potential usage of phytochemicals in biological and commercial activities.
