Abstract

Muffler, also known as silencer is a device through which the exhaust gases are passed from an internal-combustion engine to attenuate (reduce) the airborne noise of the engine. Mufflers are part of your exhaust system and are located at the rear end. New regulations and standards are set for industries to reduce noise level up to some extent. In this research work, an attempt has been made to study the different methods to evaluate the Transmission Loss (TL) of single expansion chamber reactive muffler. The acoustic analysis of the muffler is carried out by: 1) Theoretical analysis (2) The Finite Element Method by using COMSOL Multi-Physics and 3) Experimental analysis using two load method.
