The studies made on the effect of duckweed growth promoting substances on a number of crops have shown that these have a beneficial effect on the yield but also on the quality of the seeds. There is therefore every possibility of some selected duckweed having a similar beneficial effect on growth, development, yield, protein and oil content of the oil-bearing crop. The present investigation has therefore been undertaken to study the effect of growth promoting substances of duckweeds on growth, development, yield, protein and oil content of the oil-bearing plants. The observations have been carried out with the extract of Lemna paucicostata to study their effect on the different characters in Indian mustard [Brassica juncea (Linn.) Czern and Coss, variety Basanti].
